Description
We are renting out Mellow Yellow, our home converted campervan. The van is a brisk drive and will take you to the furthest backwaters of Scotland no problem.
It has power steering and its manual transmission handles very lightly. The full size bed has a super thick full length memory foam mattress so even the tallest traveler can rest their weary bones!
The little kitchen comes with a two pit gas stove, pots and pans, herbs and spices.
The rest of the van is very basic, so you can connect with nature without any distractions.
The toilet is a bucket with a toilet seat - we use it by inserting a bin bag under the seat and disposing of this each and every time it's being used. In the Summer you can use the pouch shower and in the winter you can just go to a swimming pool or use campsite facilities, pull in at a petrol station or just boil the kettle.
Spending the night in the camper can be utterly romantic especially if you find a spot that is secluded. Those who are going to travel Scotland's NorthCoast500 route (the coastal route around the highlands that has just been completed, and that is Scotland's version of Route 66), will have no trouble finding good spots as this route is litterally breath taking from start to finish (ie 500 miles worth of stunning scenery, including the odd beach with palm trees...).
Wild camping is a practice that is long established in Scotland and it is tolerated so long as you don't camp right on the door step of the camp sites (which are really not expensive anyway) or make a lot of noise.
Winter travellers are welcome but please be advised that there is no built in night heater present in the camper. We do offer a 220v electric heater which you can plug in on a campsite. For a list of campsites that are open all year round, email me. Plenty of bedding is provided so not to worry about staying warm at night. It's just basically the few hours in the evening after you stop driving until you get to bed that you will need to be creative about. Build a fire (ask me for the 5l campfire pan), go sit in a nice pub or play monopoly in bed....

Angelique was a great ‘host’; incredibly responsive and quick to reply when I had any questions. This was my first time ever in a camper, so I had a few to ask.... Angelique did a great job helping me close the knowledge gap and getting me on my way.
I have an unfulfilled ambition to build my own camper and my son recently suggested we rent one to see if we enjoyed the experience. After spending 2 nights in Mellow Yellow we can safely say YES! Van life is for us! We had so much fun exploring the Highlands and just enjoying the day at our own pace.
Mellow Yellow was warm and comfortable; a great little haven as Storm Ciara battered the rest of the UK. The bed was super comfy and spacious enough for us to share and the van was plenty spacious enough for us to wash, cook and relax after a day in the mountains.
On a side note, I run a property management company looking after Airbnb’s in Edinburgh. I’ve a lot of experience with hosts and guests. Angelique does everything right and understands that she is in the business of providing hospitality on wheels!
