Oona, named after an elephant because she's a big but gentle beast of a camper. Spacious and well equipped to make travelling comfortable, the very best thing is the skylight above the over-cab bed for star gazing at night.
She has been used well, but well used... so she's in good condition, but not perfect... which we think makes for a more relaxing time knowing that the odd knock and scrape is usual.
The van can sleep 6 but we recommend it's best for 4 people and very spacious for 2, especially in the colder months when you spend more time inside. She can be very cosy for an autumn or winter getaway.
There is a king size bed above the cab, plus a lounge area and separate dining area which can both be turned into double beds (dining area really only suitable for 1 adult or two small children). Please be aware that the sleeping arrangements are open plan - there are no doors or dividers to separate them. If you are just two people, we can remove the back table to provide more living space if you wish.
The kitchen has good worktop space, a spacious fridge with freezer compartment and 3 burner hob, plus a gas powered outdoor cooker/bbq and also a slow cooker (only useable when plugged into the mains). Please note there is not an oven or grill.
The fridge, heating, hot water and hob can all run on gas - and we provide a full bottle of gas per week with the rental so you should have plenty to keep you going if you fancy 'wild camping'. The leisure battery will power the lights and pump for 2-3 days at a time, but if you make use of the solar lamps provided, and use the leisure battery for just the pump, you could last for a week or more if you are touring as the batteries recharge as you drive.
Apart from towels and bedding we provide a lot of what you need including kitchen equipment, crockery and cutlery. There's plenty of storage for clothes etc inside, and also storage underneath for camping/sporting equipment. There is a 4 capacity bike rack.
Safety wise, Oona is fitted with a fire extinguisher, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, a lockable safe box and a clutch claw (for parking in remote areas). For driving, there are parking sensors, a rear view camera and a sat nav that is programmed to her height, length, width and weight - so you can be sure the route you are taking is appropriate for her size.
We will talk you through everything you need to know about Oona, and there are also written instruction manual in the van and we'll be at the end of the phone. We can also take you on a short drive to get used to the driving before you set off on your adventure if you would like.
We always check tyre pressure, engine oil and windscreen wiper liquid before every rental period.
If you would like to 'holiday' in a motorhome but don't fancy driving a 3.5t vehicle we may be able bring Oona to a campsite within 70 miles of Newbury. Please check with us first about availability, and also about the potential campsite as we would need to check about access, such a weight or height restrictions.
Oona is a Britstop member, which allows access to free over night stops in a variety of pub/farm locations around the UK - book and membership card inside van. Find out more about the scheme at
Our self-drive hire insurance policy allows drivers with licences from UK, EU, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. If your licence is from any other country, I will need to check with the insurance company first. Drivers must be aged 28 to 75 and have no more than 6 points on their licence.
Please do feel free to contact us with any questions.

If there are any problems/issues while you are away, please call us as soon as you can so we can help solve them.
We provide eco cleaning products for you to use while you are away and we ask that the van is returned reasonably clean, although we don't expect it to be spotless as we will do a thorough clean ourselves. By this we mean, please empty and thoroughly clean the toilet, empty the grey water and remove rubbish (although we are keen to encourage recycling where possible, so if you have clean plastic, metal, glass, paper etc and can't find appropriate facilities, we can dispose of them for you).
You will be provided with a full tank of fuel - please fill up before you return (there is a garage a few hundred metres from our house).
We provide mattress protectors, but we ask you to bring your own bedding, pillows and towels.
